Letter from the President

Dear Friends of the Sanderson Museum

2006 has been a wonderful year of growth and I can report that the Sanderson Museum is once again making a name for itself in the community. When I first became president in 2005, my goals were to attract energetic and creative people to the board and for the Sanderson to take on a much more active part of the community.

To this end, in the last 18 months, we have welcomed onto the board Rich Bowers, Dean Camp, Karen Smith Furst and Sue Minarchi. Rich Bowers our newest member is no stranger to history and non-profits. The former president of the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates and an active Revolutionary War re-enactor, Rich is a consultant to other non-profits. Under his tenure, programs at the Battlefield took a giant leap forward. Dean Camp, a principal in Camp-Wilcox, a Wachovia company, lives in the home where the N.C. Wyeth family lived in 1908. He had served on our board less than one month when he demonstrated his commitment to the museum by bringing in a large donation from a client. Karen Smith Furst has worked in museums at the Brandywine Battlefield, Winterthur and the Chadds Ford Historical Society. She has already built our new website as well as created rack cards, brochures and our new slogan “A Man’s Life, A Nation’s History”. And finally Sue Minarchi is a professional business woman and artist who studies with board member and Brandywine artist Karl Kuerner. She also serves as Executive Secretary to our Board. But more importantly, she serves as the official cheerleader to the president, sitting next to me at all meetings and keeping me on track.

We have also begun to take a rather active stance in outreach. In May I greeted visitors to our booth at the Chadds Ford Community Day. And in September, thanks to the efforts of Chip Lohmann, Dean Camp and Pat Koedding, we had a successful presence at the Brandywine Battlefield’s battle re-enactment. In June I made a presentation of a framed 1916 photograph by Chris to the Chadds Ford Township Supervisors. In addition to the presentation of the Civil War letter in Charleston, South Carolina reported on earlier, I gave a slide lecture for the Concord – Chadds Ford Rotary in September. More are slated for 2007, our 40th anniversary year.

And lastly the board has voted unanimously to change out dues structure, which had not been changed since 1967! The Sanderson has entered the 21st century. Won’t you please renew your commitment today?

Sally J. Denk
President
